Marc-Anthony McGowan's performance at the NCAA Wrestling Championships stands out this week as he claimed silver in the 125-pound weight class, becoming Princeton's first All-American and national finalist since 2023. McGowan, who finished his season with a 19-7 record, advanced through the tournament with notable victories, including a sudden-victory upset over the second seed, Eddie Ventresca, and a 4-1 decision against Jacob Moran in the semifinals. In the final match, McGowan faced top-seeded Luke Lilledahl, where he ultimately fell short after a tightly contested bout decided by a stall call. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the wrestling program under Head Coach Joe Dubuque.
In men's ice hockey, Princeton concluded a historic season with a narrow 2-1 overtime loss to Dartmouth in the ECAC Championship game. The Tigers reached the championship for the first time since the 2017-18 season, finishing with a record of 18-13-3. Joshua Karnish scored Princeton's lone goal, and both he and teammate Kai Daniells earned spots on the All-Tournament team. Earlier in the tournament, Princeton had defeated No. 8 Cornell, 3-2, to advance to the finals, showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit throughout the postseason.
The women's basketball team, ranked No. 23, faced a challenging first-round matchup in the NCAA Tournament, falling to Oklahoma State, 82-68. Despite a strong start, the Tigers struggled to maintain momentum against the Cowgirls, who capitalized on a series of runs to secure the victory. This marked Princeton's seventh consecutive NCAA appearance, a testament to the program's consistent success.
In rowing, the men's lightweight team opened their season with a fourth consecutive victory at the Murtaugh Cup, defeating Navy. The first varsity boat finished with a time of 5:45.4, securing the cup once again and improving their all-time record against Navy to 14-3. The team looks ahead to the National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational, where they will face Columbia and Dartmouth.
Finally, in women's swimming and diving, Eleanor Sun earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 200 IM at the NCAA Championships, finishing 15th with a time of 1:56.08. Sun also competed in the 200 butterfly, placing 20th. The team has shown strong performances throughout the championships, including a program record set by Sabrina Johnston in the 100-yard backstroke prelims. The swimming and diving squad continues to compete, aiming for further achievements in the remaining events.
